A century later, in 1845, the estate was bought by Jean-Marie Martin who gave new impetus to the sugar refinery by transforming it into a distillery. Shipped to Saint-Pierre, rums with the initials ‘J.M’ are enjoying increasing success.
  
A few years later, in 1912, the distillery was bought by the Crassous de Médeuil family. The two areas (Fonds-Préville and Bellevue) are then combined to make one, of 400 hectares. Major improvements were made, which helped give J.M rum ​​its reputation.
