- "Beaumes-de-Venise joined the Comtat Venaissin in 1348. Pope Clement VI made Muscat his preferred aperitif—a sweet wine he would refresh with spring water!
- A natural sweet wine, Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise begins like any other wine, but fermentation is halted with the addition of about 10% pure alcohol (a process called mutage). This preserves both the wine’s sweetness and the fruity character of the grapes.
- Today, it is enjoyed chilled over ice, with a slice of orange or a dash of tonic. It develops floral aromas of verbena and mint, finishing with notes of exotic fruits and peach."
