"The Saint Julien d’Aille estate (certified Organic) is a very historic vineyard. Originally monastic before the French Revolution, it was for over half a century the property of the Pasteur Institute. Fully restored by Bernard Fleury, who acquired it in 1999, the estate now spans 80 hectares. Its name combines the Aille, a small river in the Plaine des Maures, with Saint Julien, a Roman centurion and martyr of the 4th century.
 
 
Saint Julien lived in the 3rd century AD. Defying Roman authorities, he converted to Christianity in 304 and deserted the army. Arrested, he was executed by beheading. The rebellion of this martyr against the power of Rome inspired widespread devotion throughout the Empire. In Gaul, more than 300 chapels were erected in his memory. In 1095, Pope Urban IX canonized him and blessed the chapel at the Château in Saint-Julien."
