"A historical reference in the Saint-Julien appellation, Château Gruaud Larose was founded in 1757, when several estates merged. The property took this name when Joseph Gruaud's heir added his name "Larose," thus becoming known as Château Gruaud Larose. In the Merlaut family's possession in 1997, Château Gruaud Larose embodies the excellence of the great red wines of Saint-Julien and seduces lovers of the appellation with its style.

Aging lasts 18 months in French oak barrels, 95% of which are new.
  
The nose is generous, with aromas of black cherry, boysenberry, and subtle floral scents. Aromas of cedar and forest floor appear over time.
  
The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a lively acidity, quite structured and firm."
