  • "Pascal Dartigalongue was born in 1817, during the reign of Louis XVIII. Born into a family of winegrowers based in Saint Lannes, near Madiran, he lived from his earliest childhood surrounded by vines, wine, and "Eau de Vie" (the name given to Armagnac).
  • Since 1838, the Dartigalongue family has been producing artisanal Armagnacs in Nogaro, Bas Armagnac. Owned by the same family without interruption, Maison Dartigalongue is proud to have been awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label, which recognizes French companies with excellent artisanal and industrial expertise.
  • The richness of Dartigalongue Armagnac is rooted in the sandy-loam soil of the Bas-Armagnac terroir, renowned for producing eaux-de-vie of exceptional finesse and of incomparable elegance.
  • The blend is made from three complementary grape varieties: Ugni Blanc for its fruity notes of pear and apple, Baco 22A for its velvety structure and long finish, and Folle Blanche for its floral elegance.
  • Distillation is carried out in a continuous Armagnac-style still at 58° proof. This traditional, low-proof method preserves the aromas as much as possible, providing exceptional aging potential. The coarse-grained Gascon oak barrels, primarily from the Southwest, contribute to the generosity and richness of the eaux-de-vie's aromas, notably with notes of candied fruit. Each year, 30% of the freshly distilled eau-de-vie is transferred to new barrels.
  • The alternation of dry and humid cellars allows for optimal aging. The dry cellars, located at higher elevations, modulate the vivacity of the young eaux-de-vie, while the humid cellars, with their dirt floors, provide roundness and finesse thanks to a more stable temperature.
  • Aging is overseen by Ghislain Laffargue, cellar master at Dartigalongue since 1990.
  • Benoit Hillion, director of the House and representing the 6th generation, is at the heart of decisions related to aging. Together, they shape the blends that define the unique character of the House's Armagnacs.
  • The Vintage corresponds to the year of the harvest. The youngest Vintages marketed by Maison Dartigalongue have been aged for a minimum of 15 years in 400-liter oak barrels. After 40 to 50 years of aging in wood, they are then placed under glass, in demijohns, to preserve their flavor and halt the decline in alcohol content.
  • Its characteristics evolve from year to year due to aging and the "angel's share" (3 to 4% loss through evaporation each year in wood)."
